As reported by Radio Sawa, Ibrahim Bajlan, head of the Diyala provincial council, said that after a series of military operations, Iraqi security forces had cleared most Al-Qaeda operatives from Diyala.

He indicated that security forces controlled the areas of Sherwin and Al-Mansouria and that both had been cleared of Al-Qaeda by joint security forces and local citizens.

Ibrahim also said that the head of the 1920 Revolution Brigades, Adi Al-Nadawi, had been killed in a traffic accident. He also denied that Sheikh Ibrahim Ali Zidan Al-Ankabi, leader of the Awakening Volunteers in Al-Salam, district of Al-Khalis, had been killed.
