The Baghdad Operations Command decided to recognize Al-Kadhimiya as a weapons-free area. In a press conference attended by Mawtani, Major General Qassim Atta, the Spokesperson for the Imposing the Law Plan, said that directives were issued giving residents of Al-Kadhimiya three days to turn in their heavy, medium and light weapons, in exchange for monetary compensation. Major General Qassim Atta warned those who did not give up their weapons that they will be subject to arrest and will be held legally accountable.

The Spokesperson for the Imposing the Law Plan said that the Baghdad Operations Command, in cooperation with the Office of the Top Commander of the Armed Forces, will in the next few days, begin taking away prohibited weapons from all citizens and parties throughout Baghdad. The aim of the program is to eliminate all armed movements and secure weapons in the hands of the state. Weapons that are subject to this include light and heavy weapons, explosive materials, different types of mortars, Katyusha and Grad rockets, locally-manufactured explosive devices, smart bombs, anti-armor mines, RPK, PKC and RPG7 weapons, sniper rifles, other explosive materials, military communications equipment, and different military equipment.

In another matter, Major General Qassim Atta confirmed the continuation of the military operations of the Imposing the Law Plan throughout Baghdad. He said that things were going well, and denied that security forces were targeting civilians in the military operations against outlaws. He said that these forces will respond with force and determination to all aggression from these organizations, until they are eliminated, but the operations are aimed specifically at criminal militias only, not political movements..

Regarding the most prominent military operations undertaken by security forces in the past two weeks, the Spokesperson for the Imposing the Law Plan said that the 25th brigade, responsible for the Al-Karkh area, had found three rocket launching platforms, a number of bombs and explosive materials, and a number of weapons caches, in addition to capturing a number of wanted men.

Regarding the Al-Rasafa area, Major General Qassim Atta said that the 8th brigade of the national police force destroyed a guided rocket in the Al-Habibiya area and three rockets in the Al-Maamal area. In addition, the 9th division seized a weapons, ammunition and explosives depot in the area of Al-Zaafraniya. These and other operations led to the capture of a number of wanted men and others involved in illegal activities.

The Spokesperson for the Imposing the Law Plan, Major General Qassim Atta, confirmed that the military operations carried out by security forces between March 23rd and April 5th led to the killing of more than eighty terrorists, the capture of more than 400 wanted men, the arrest of 464 suspects and the freeing of 15 hostages. Additionally, four car bombs had been neutralized, 101 bombs defused, and nearly 40,000 medium and heavy weapons had been confiscated.

It seems that government efforts, especially military ones, will lean on a strategy of confronting all the gangs and criminal networks, going after all militias and military wings of political parties, in order for weapons to be secured in the hands of the state and for all to be subject to the rule of law. This is supported by most political blocs. According to analysts, these efforts are beginning to bear fruits. Because of this, a number of citizens and gunmen are beginning to lay down their weapons and hand them over to security forces, according to the Spokesperson for the Imposing the Law Plan.
