The Central Iraqi Soccer Federation officially signed the Serbian Bora Milutinovic on as coach of the Iraqi national team, at a press conference held in the Jordanian capital of Amman.

The Serbian coach sent the message to the Iraqi public that they will see the Iraqi team at an elevated level, saying, “I agreed on a training program with the Iraqi Soccer Federation.”

Bora concluded his remarks by saying that “with all due respect to the other teams in our group (South Africa, Spain, New Zealand), I pledge to the Iraqi people that the Iraqi team will qualify for the round of four (the semifinals).”

Captain Hussein Said, former president of the Iraqi Soccer Federation, said, “First of all, we agreed to contract with a major international coach to coach our national team.”

Hussein added, “We know Bora very well, especially since we remember him from the World Cup (Mexico 1986), when he led Mexico to a 1-0 victory over us.”

Hussein followed by saying, “Bora’s mission will be to lead our national team in the Confederations Cup, which begins on June 14. His contract is renewable.”

I am an amateur Iranian football player. The Serbian and Croatian coaches are very good ones. They have been relatively successful in Asian teams. I have seen different games of the Iraqis, and as an Iranian I consider them one of the top five teams in Asia. The interesting thing is that the style of Iraqi football is very similar to that of the Iranian national team. Of course the Iraqis still need good technical players. In general I think Iran and Iraq are the two strong teams in Asia.

I hope that the new coach will be able to find the keys to the hearts of the Iraqi players. I personally do not want good results in such tournaments as much as I want the national team to play honorably until the last minute of every game. At the end, game results will be a matter of good fortune.

First of all, let me congratulate you and pass my regards to you all, I'm a Kurd but an Iraqi first… in my opinion, Bora will lead our national soccer team back to its standard level, and here I need to applaud you for this great and blessed step forward. I’m a great fan of the Iraqi national team and hope that you can arrange for a friendly match so us we can practically know Boras' actual ability, this also might help Bora to determine the fault and weaknesses of our team, and eventually work to build a strong and united team that can bring back the pride to our country again. I thank you so much again.

Coach Bora is good, but we need more games from the Iraqi Soccer Federation. Thanks.

Peace be upon you. My comment is this: why must we always take late steps? You know that the last minutes of the test are devastating, and we don’t know which answer is the right one. What are you doing, Iraqi Soccer Federation?

God give victory to our Mesopotamian lions under the new coach. Whatever the result of our team in the Continents Cup, it is an honor for us and the Arab states that Iraq is participating as the Asian champion.

Is the Iraqi national team able to win after the draw with Saudi Arabia and the loss to Korea? The new coach will fail if he believes that the team is the same as the old team. Thank you.

The coach Bora said that he knew the Iraqi team in 1986, but the Iraqi team in 2009 is different.

Bora is a good coach. He helped the Qatari team to win against the Uzbekistani team in Qatar by three goals. Thanks to the heroic Iraqi Soccer Federation.

The coach Bora is one of the most distinguished trainers in the world, but will he be able to lead our team in the Continents Cup, especially given that the time is too short to prepare the team for such a tournament? We wish that our team will play at a level worthy of the standard of Iraqi soccer. We wish success to all those who wants to serve Iraqi soccer in the right way. God is the source of our success.
