Erbil FC striker Ahmed Salah has not yet determined his future, despite having offers from two of Baghdad’s public clubs.
In an interview with the Qatari newspaper Estad Doha, Ahmed Salah said, “I have not made a final decision. I may play professionally abroad or transfer to one of Baghdad’s public clubs, as I have offers from two of them.”
He added, “I am currently focusing on leading Erbil to a successful defense of the Premier League title for a third time in a row.”
Regarding the latest developments in the Iraqi league, Ahmed Salah expects that the title will go either to his team or to Dohuk, Najaf or Al-Amana. He hopes his team is victorious in the end.
Ahmed Salah expressed his happiness with Erbil’s qualifying for the quarterfinals of the AFC Cup. “Representing Iraq is a great honor,” he said. “Reaching the quarterfinals is a great achievement for Erbil FC, as we are participating in the tournament for the first time.”
Ahmed Salah has played a decisive role in the Iraqi Premier League finals of the past two seasons, scoring the winning goal for his team, first against Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya and then against Al-Zawraa. He is currently the league’s leading scorer with 14 goals, a number that may be enough to crown him top goal scorer in the Iraqi Premier League, given that very few matches remain this season.
Ahmed Salah has entered Erbil FC’s hall of fame in a major way, as his 39 goals make him the top scorer in the history of the team, which began in 1968.
