The Iraqi Duhok Club recently achieved a good victory over its host, the Syrian Al-Hurriya Club, in the first round of Group A in the Aleppo Friendly Championship, which is called the “Journalists’ League.”
At the Al-Hamadaniya Stadium in the city of Aleppo and before 7,000 spectators, Duhok turned the table against Al-Hurriya after the latter scored first through Ahmad Idrees in the 39th minute.
In the second half, Duhok’s players shook off the dust and scored two fast goals within two minutes through Salar Abd Al-Jabbar, who had transferred from Al-Zawrra, and international player Ali Salah Hashem, who transferred from the Emirati Al-Wahda Club, in the 58th and 60th minutes, respectively.
Eight clubs, divided into two groups, are participating in the championship. The first group includes the Al-Ittihad Club from Aleppo, Syria, the Syrian Al-Karama Club, the Iraqi Duhok Club, and the Syrian Al-Hurriya Club.
The second group includes the Syrian Al-Taliyaa and Afreen Clubs, the Lebanese Al-Ahad Club, and the Iraqi Al-Bareed Club.
It is noteworthy that Duhok’s participation is the club’s first in a foreign tournament. The team also achieved significant victories during the last two seasons under the supervision of Coach Bassem Qassim.
